On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its brand, AXA announces the creation of the AXA Foundation for Human Progress. With a budget of €60 million per year, twice as much as the amounts allocated in previous years, it brings together the main philanthropic actions of the Group and the AXA Mutuelles d'assurances to strengthen their impact. By placing this initiative in the natural extension of its mission as an insurer, AXA is making philanthropy a strategic lever, based on interdisciplinarity and transversality in the service of human progress.

Human progress, a compass at the heart of AXA's mission

By explicitly integrating the notion of human progress into the very name of its foundation, AXA reaffirms the alignment of this initiative with its purpose: Act for human progress by protecting what matters. The Foundation thus becomes the nonprofit extension of the Group's insurance and investor activities. It embodies its broader vision of protection, which is not limited to insurance risks but extends to the resilience of societies, the reduction of inequalities and access to culture and knowledge.

Thomas Buberl

Chief Executive Officer of AXA

Being an insurer means making solidarity a fundamental principle. In a world marked by crises, fractures and a growing fragmentation of society, our responsibility is to build new common horizons. The AXA Foundation for Human Progress embodies this conviction: social cohesion is at the heart of our business, and our philanthropic commitment is a natural extension of this.

Strategic, legible and ambitious philanthropy

The AXA Foundation for Human Progress is the result of bringing together the main philanthropy initiatives carried out by the Group and the AXA Mutuelles d'assurances over the past four decades and aims to amplify the impact of these commitments.

Philippe Guérand

Chairman of the AXA Mutuelles d'Assurance

Since their creation, the AXA Mutuelles d'assurances have been committed to the protection of people and solidarity in the heart of the territories. This Foundation continues a long tradition of commitment to society. It allows us to pool our strengths and strengthen the impact of our actions over time.

The AXA Foundation for Human Progress brings together under a single banner the actions carried out in the four major historical areas of intervention of the Group and the AXA Mutuelles d'assurances, which are essential to social cohesion and solidarity:

  • Science: Advancing research, better understanding risks and improving quality of life.
  • Protecting the planet: responding to the climate and environmental emergency, a sine qua non condition for a viable future.
  • Solidarity, inclusion and education: building fairer, more resilient and equitable societies.
  • Art, culture and heritage: preserving what is the basis of social ties, collective memory and the ability to express oneself.

An innovative approach rooted in the needs of the field

With this Foundation, AXA intends to innovate in the way it does philanthropy. The Foundation will rely on several differentiating levers:

  • Better understand complex emerging risks, detect new needs and reduce new vulnerabilities at the intersection of different intervention themes, through increased support for research.
  • Promote an interdisciplinary approach, by combining expertise and innovating models.
  • Strengthen its impact measurement, to guarantee the relevance, transparency and effectiveness of the projects supported.
  • To offer simplified access for project leaders, as close as possible to the local population needs.
